Province way too late in coming to the table with PSW plan
Let’s face it. The government sat on their hands all summer and didn’t get its act together in a timely manner — long-term overhaul or not.
Let’s face it. The government sat on their hands all summer and didn’t get its act together in a timely manner — long-term overhaul or not.

The province made two confusing announcements this week about hiring desperately-needed personal support workers for long-term care homes.

One would think they have no plan when it comes to ensuring lessons have been learned from the COVID-19 crisis, which has claimed the lives of 3,739 long-term care (LTC) residents to date, more in the second wave than the first.

Or, it’s just that they’re as disorganized as they are on the vaccine rollout file — the embarrassing fiasco created by the Trudeau government.

I’m left scratching my head as to what Premier Doug Ford and Long-Term Care Minister Merrilee Fullerton are doing.

Last Oct. 23 — as the second wave of COVID was heating up — the province’s own Long-Term Care Commission issued a five-page letter with interim recommendations.

The first couldn’t have been clearer about beefing up staffing in LTC homes — in particular personal support workers (PSWs ) to perform the extra duties needed when homes were in outbreak.
