Why the Trudeau Liberals don't want to talk about China
The Liberals don’t want the federal election complicated by anyone talking out loud about foreign policy — especially Xi’s regime

Of the many obstacles that have been strategically placed in the path of the voting public’s comprehension of where the parties situate themselves in the federal election campaign that’s just now heading into its final lap around the track, there’s nothing quite so peculiar as the cordon sanitaire Justin Trudeau’s Liberals have been allowed to construct around any serious discussion of foreign policy.

The Liberals are similarly counting on voters not to notice that what distinguishes their foreign policy is the thing that has caused the Chinese government and its network of diplomats and well-connected friends in Canada to be rather too obvious in their enthusiasm for a Liberal re-election. So enthusiastic, in fact, that they’re already coming close to violating Canadian laws intended to safeguard federal elections from foreign interference.

It began on Aug. 25, when Chinese Ambassador Cong Peiwu, without explicitly naming him, insinuated that Erin O’Toole was placing his party’s “political interests” ahead of fruitful Canada-China relations. After an obligatory throat-clearing to the effect that it was not his intent to comment on or interfere in the election, Cong said China would oppose anyone “hyping up issues related to China or smearing China.”

Since then, Vancouver East New Democrat MP Jenny Kwan and Steveston—Richmond East Conservative MP Kenny Chiu have been targeted by Beijing-friendly individuals and organizations that have served as megaphones for China’s brutal crackdowns in Hong Kong and Xinjiang. The two candidates have been vocal in calling attention to Beijing’s genocidal repression of Xinjiang’s minority Muslim Uyghurs and Xi Jinping’s brutal repression of Hong Kong’s democratic movement.

In Kwan’s case, Fred Kwok, a high-rolling Vancouverite with a reputation for defending Beijing against charges that it is a totalitarian human rights abuser, organized a free lunch for the Chinese-Canadian community to meet with Kwan’s Liberal opponent, Josh Vander Vies. Kwok later told the Vancouver Sun that in doing so, he’d inadvertently violated the donation-limit rules under the Elections Act.

I’ve admittedly been exceptionally bitchy today. Hopefully this will make amends. No hints. You’ve got to watch for yourself. TGIF.

China is right now and for the foreseeable future the top source of U.S. (and thus automatically Canada’s) pharmaceutical imports. Not open to debate because there is nothing to debate. But this is….the article is unfortunately behind a paywall.

Think the auto plants are trouble now? Just wait. And that’s just one major industry. Fact – The world relies on one chip maker, Taiwan. Taiwan makes almost all of the world’s chips from the most sophisticated to the least. From toasters, to tv sets to satellites. From lawn mowers to tractor trailer trucks that supply our grocery stores to railroad diesel engines to jet fighters. Even including the most important device of all to the vast majority, their cell phones and ipads. Maybe the last one will (hopefully) raise a few eyebrows. The list is endless. So put on your thinking caps, Canadians. What’s going to happen after China invades and occupies Taiwan? The west (and the world) hasn’t seen anything yet. China knows it faces an ‘don’t worry be happy’ opponent. Believe this, COVID was just the opening act. The main event is coming and we are utterly unprepared n every way. While we waste inordinate amounts of valuable time running around chasing our WOKE tails, China is focused like a laser beam on burying us.
